Bismarck – Spirit Halloween has occupied Luke Simon’s vacant seat after his historic expulsion from the North Dakota House of Representatives. A Spirit Halloween sign was spotted hanging from Simon’s seat moments after the legislator was removed from the House Chamber.
North Dakota House Majority Leader Chet Pollert says he’s optimistic Spirit Halloween will fulfill the duties of District 36.
“Today we removed a clown and replaced him with a skeleton,” said Pollert. “We’re just asking folks to keep the costumes appropriate to maintain the integrity of our legislative body.”
A moment of confusion unraveled shortly after a Spirit Halloween employee tried to put House Speaker Kim Koppelman in a Halloween display.
“We honestly thought he was just a plastic mannequin or giant Ken Doll. It was an honest mistake,” said a Spirit Halloween representative.
Starting Friday, legislators will now have access to an assortment of costumes and props on the floor of the House of Representatives.
Representative Rick Becker, whose seat is located next to the Halloween store, says he’s delighted to have easy access to additional costumes for his constituent video updates.
“I’m just hoping they get a wider assortment of costumes in youth sizes,” said Becker.
