Washington, D.C. – North Dakota Senator Kevin Cramer announced today that he has donated his salary during the historic Federal Government Shutdown, to his scheduler and wife, Kris Cramer.

Cramer’s announcement came moments after North Dakota Senator John Hoeven and North Dakota Representative Kelly Armstrong announced the recipients of their congressional salaries during the government shutdown.

Cramer was the target of criticism of both sides of the political isle for refusing to donate his salary during the longest shutdown in American history, calling it a “gimmicky”, even after his fellow North Dakota Republican colleagues announced their salaries would be donated to different causes.

“Today, I am pleased to announce that I have made the decision to donate my salary earned during the government shutdown to my scheduler, Kris Cramer,” said Senator Cramer in a press release. “While the decision was difficult, I can think of no better cause than that of my own family during our country’s historic shutdown. Many Federal Employees were forced to make a great deal of sacrifices during the shutdown such as living off of food stamps and selling their personal belongings. For myself and my scheduler, it meant subbing out our Applebee’s two for $22 weekly dinners in exchange for the Chick-fil-A chicken deluxe meal. President Trump was also gracious enough to invite us over several times for pizzas and Big Macs to help us get by.  The shutdown was a very difficult time for Kris and myself, but by donating my salary to Kris, the Cramer family can get back on its feet again.”

Cramer says now that his family is able to move forward through his donation, his family is taking proactive steps if the government shuts down again.

“The Senator is preparing his family again if Congress fails to fund the wall,” said Cramer’s Senior Shutdown Spokesman. “In addition to possibly donating his future salaries to his scheduler, Senator Cramer has not ruled out bunking in with colleagues Senator Hoeven and Representative Armstrong, if in fact another shutdown were to occur. And just to be clear, Senator Cramer has already called the top bunk for himself. John (Hoeven) and Kelly (Armstrong) can fight it out for the bottom.”
